Phase I of development was completed in Summer 2008. Thanks to all who participated in the events that made development possible!

Because our photo collection has grown so much, we've moved our photos of events and park development to a Flickr slide show format. Click here to view more photos-- and check back periodically for updates.

Phase II of development is underway. Please visit our Funding page to learn how you can help.

VISION FOR THE WATERFRONT AREA

Why build the Waterfront Community Park?
Hood River County has been missing a key link between the Columbia River and our residents. Our waterfront park will fill the needs of a diverse population, from school children to seniors.

The Waterfront Community Park Association believes our quality of life is improved through recreational opportunities, family gathering places and enjoyment of our scenic riverfront landscapes. A Hood River waterfront park created within these guidelines is one that our community will take great pride in for generations to come!

Click here to view the final master plan for our new park designed by GreenWorks, Inc. (architect Frank Rudloff).

Park features:

  • Undulating shoreline with an inset beach on a gradual slope
  • Viewing area over the Columbia River that closely resembles historical Native American fishing platform
  • Floating dock
  • Wind art feature
  • Picnic Lawn
  • A "Great Lawn" that runs 300 feet across for model airplane flying, soccer and other sports
  • Grassy terraced amphitheatre to the west with interspersed seat walls
  • Children's area with sand and water play and play equipment
  • Seating for up to 1,500 people
  • Central path with room for 40 vendors to set up wares during special events
  • Native plantings
  • 66 parking spaces

"Our responsibility to future generations is to protect, enjoy, enhance, and pass on an excellent park system. We can afford what we want. We recall in special times when we stood briefly, but magnificently, united. In those times no prize was beyond our grasp. We must leave a legacy."
Rev. Dr. T. Allen Bethel, Pastor (Taken from Portland Parks and Recreation Vision 2020)
